It’s always best to try to catch a meteor shower during new moon. Unfortunately the Perseids in August peak during full moon this year. However a little known shower that peaks May 30 is predicted to make a big showing this year. Or it could be a no-show, as usual. If you’re going to be at the dark site anyway, watch for the Tau Herculids as soon as it gets dark.
The Tau Herculids radiant is near Arcturus in Boötes. Huh? Check this article from EarthSky to find out why the radiant is in Boötes instead of Hercules and why it’s best to start viewing before midnight for this particular shower: https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/tau-herculid-meteors-may-intense-shower/.
