April 02, 2022, 3:00PM: Messier Marathon — 2nd weekend
The Messier Marathon! Test your observing skills by attempting to observe all 110 Messier objects in one night. This year we have two chances to observe: Saturday, March 5 and Saturday, April 2—a built-in rain date.
We’ll run four types of marathon: visual (GoTo or manual telescope), binocular, electronically assisted, and astrophotography. Marathon log forms are available here
Note: Saturday, April 2, these objects are not visible: M74, M77, M31, M32, and M110 as they set in the glare of early twilight.
The best night for 2022 was new moon March 2 when only M30 was not visible. However, we were clouded out in greater Houston and the dark site.
