WSIG 2021 Kickoff

Event Date

Heart-nebula.jpg

I was hoping to Zoom in from the HAS Observatory but I don't think I can keep warm in that cavernous building. So, I'll be joining in from home.

Topic: SCT telescopes
Discussion: Have a scope at home? Let's see it (if you like)
Time & Date: 7 PM Sunday, Feb 14

Note: The Zoom meeting notice and agenda have been emailed to the WSIG. If you’d like it re-sent to you or if you’d like join us, email me at reneg@astronomyhouston.org.

Thought Valentine's Day WSIG heart.png would be a good day to kick off our first WSIG meeting of 2021. We'll meet via Zoom at 7pm, meeting notice to come.

In the meantime, think about what you'd like to get out of our "club within a club” (thanks, Sarah Silva!). You can share ideas now via the HAS_WSIG email list or wait until we get together. I may break Keto to show off my Red Velvet Cake.

Meetings will begin with a brief overview of a topic suggested in advance by one of the WSIG members and will include show-and-tell demos of equipment and tools. The meeting will continue with Q&A and a freewheeling discussion of any and all topics in astronomy pertaining to the featured topic—or any other. No rules; just exploring and learning from each other.

Field trips to the HAS dark site will also be planned where skills covered during Zoom meetings can be put to use. Groups may form in order to work on various observing lists. Or the WSIG may join the rest of the club at the dark site to work the soon-to-be announced HAS Texas 45 progression. Finally, it wouldn’t be a WSIG without food, so that will be incorporated as well.

If you’re a woman HAS member in good standing (dues paid, lol), you’re invited to join the WSIG. Contact Rene at reneg@astronomyhouston.org to get put on the HAS_WSIG email list—Rene Gedaly
